What Is Peak Flow Meter?

That is the fastest rate of forced exhalation. In the diagnosis of asthma and asthma treatment subsequent aspect, perhaps expiratory air flow rate meter is the biggest reform. Peak flow meter is used to measure PEFR (peak expiratory flow rate, L / Min), it is the ideal tool to monitor patients at home, the real objective of asthma every day, because it can help patients detect the disease early signs of deterioration (asthma attacks).

How to monitor asthma with a Peak Flow Meter?

During asthma, the airways in your lungs gradually narrow, so you exhale less and less quickly, so the peak expiratory flow meter can begin to decrease hours or days before symptoms occur , if you can treat symptoms before they occur, you can prevent an asthma attack or prevent a severe asthma attack, so the relationship between peak expiratory pressure and asthma is like the relationship between sphygmomanometer and hyperemia.

Instructions for use

Setting method:

  • Work with your doctor to determine an appropriate value for your PEF.
  • Set the green-yellow pointer at 80% of your PEF value.
  • Set the red-yellow pointer at 60% of your best PEF value.

During measurement, when the red cursor pointer stays between the yellow areas of yellow-green and red-yellow pointers, it indicates the alert state. Above the green range, it is normal. If it is lower than the red range, it means that the situation is not very good, and you should seek medical attention in time.

How to clean:

  • Zero the indicator
  • Soak the peak speed meter with diluted neutral clean water or warm water (do not use hot water) for 2-3 minutes, then rinse vigorously
  • Gently shake off the moisture and let it dry in a clean and cool place.

Processes of using:

  • Tighten the thick end of the transparent mouthpiece to the round mouth interface of the peak flow meter.
  • Gently dial the red vernier pointer of the peak flow meter to the lowest position of the scale.
  • Inhale as much as possible, then wrap your lips around the interface, be careful not to leak air around your lips, and then exhale forcefully in a short period of time.
  • At this time, please record the value at the scale pointed by the red vernier needle. This value is your highest expiratory flow value.
  • If repeating the test, please note: Press the red vernier pointer to the lowest point of the scale each time the clamp is tested.
  • Each test can be performed 3 times. Select the highest expiratory flow value (PEFR) and record it in the test table together with the date and time of the test.
  • After each measurement, please keep the peak flow meter properly for reuse.

This peak flow meter is designed with green-yellow, red-yellow pointers, in order to allow you to directly observe the current expiratory flow value area, so as to be able to treat in time.
